I am not one to pass judgement on other people, so please don't take it that way.
Today I forgot to pack a lunch. At two o'clock I was hungry, so I closed the office for a moment while I ran across the street to Maverick. A chocodile, some pringles and a package of Grandma's cookies, I know, not the healthiest thing you've heard of. Anyways, I'm standing in line and a client of mine came up behind me, without realizing it was me. I finished my transaction and walked to the door. I overheard my client order up a couple of lotto tickets. No biggie, it just made me smile because he's a BYU-I employee. Farbeit from me to call someone on the carpet, I've never subscribed to the every member a mission president mentality (and I'll probably go to hell for it). It just made me chuckle is all. I've purchased a lotto ticket before, because I had just turned 18 and it was a cool thing to do with my new-found 18 year-oldness. It got me thinkin though, what do I do that laughs in the face of avoid the very appearance of evil concept? I try hard to do what's right, and for some reason, probably thanks to my mission, I'm still very much under the impression that someone is always watching, even though I know they could care less (except for God obviously).
For your edification here's my list:
1-I drink caffeinated beverages. (I love diet pepsi)
2-I will fill my car with gas on Sunday if I forgot to do it on Saturday.
3-I have no problem believing in both creationism and evolution.
4-I voted for a Democrat for President. (Not that Democrats are evil, but here in Mormonville, well, you get the idea)
5-I will on occasion wear a colored shirt to church on Sunday. (Probably has more to do with my own stigma than anything said by church authorities)
I'm sure there are plenty more, and I suppose that I should put myself in check for these things. The point is; we all do things that others would look down on. What a person does is between him and the Lord. So why is there a need to cast judgement on people? I'm glad God is the judge, cuz he knows what's up.
